Throughout the 2018-19 academic year, Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie joined IU students in Indiana and around the globe to honor the university's traditions and celebrate its progress toward making the future even brighter for generations of students to come.
Together they dedicated the Excellence Academy, a new facility where student-athletes will develop leadership and life skills, and receive academic support, career support and sports performance assessment and support. They hung banners that will remind the thousands of visitors who attend events at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall each year of the first IU women's basketball team to win a Women's National Invitational Tournament championship. They listened with alumni and visitors during homecoming weekend as members of IU's legendary Marching Hundred band played in celebration of Ray E. Cramer Marching Hundred Hall, a new practice facility for the nearly 300-members of IU's band.
IU students also joined IU President McRobbie to breathe new purpose into Ernie Pyle Hall when it was rededicated as the new home of the IU Admissions Welcome Center and the Walter Center for Career Achievement where students just beginning their journey at IU and those who are planning for the future will get the support they need to succeed. McRobbie celebrated another new beginning with students in the School of Art, Architecture + Design when the school was named in honor of Sidney and Lois Eskenazi.

The university's 18th president also heard directly from current students about issues of importance to them when he met with members of the Cabinet of Student Leaders and the Board of Aeons, a nearly 100-year-old student research and advisory organization that works closely with the IU president. He also sat down with Senior Zach Cruz to learn more about what made his time at IU unique, and McRobbie chatted with students from the cast of "Antigone," who recently performed in the first dramatic production held at the Conrad Prebys Amphitheater as part of IU's Bicentennial celebration.
This spring, McRobbie congratulated IU's Big Ten champs in person when he hosted dinners in honor of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams and the men's soccer team. The McRobbies also cheered on the IU men's soccer team when they competed in Mexico against the University team from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. While in Thailand and Korea, the president and first lady spoke with IU students learning abroad about their experiences with overseas study.
Whether they were athletes or musicians, attending class on an IU campus or studying abroad, the McRobbies saw students embrace the Hoosier spirit in their roles as leaders, learners and global ambassadors for IU.
