Honorary Doctor of Philosophy, National Institute of Development Administration

In 2025, Chancellor McRobbie received an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Social Development Administration from NIDA in Bangkok, Thailand, bestowed upon him by Crown Princess Sirindhorn, who has had a close relationship with IU for many years. In the 1950s, Indiana University was involved in helping to establish NIDA with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development, and it has now grown to be one of Southeast Asia's premier graduate institutions. 

Honorary Doctor of Science, La Trobe University

In late 2023, Chancellor McRobbie was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from La Trobe University in Australia, where he began his academic career as a  young researcher more than 40 years prior.

At its June 2021 meeting, the IU Board of Trustees awarded McRobbie the University Medal, the highest award the university can bestow. Rarely awarded and honoring the truly exceptional, the medal is presented to those who have made extraordinary contributions to IU or humanity at large. Honorees include Nobel Prize winners, senators and university leaders.

Upon presiding over his final IU Bloomington undergraduate commencement as IU president, McRobbie received an honorary doctor of science degree, the highest academic honor IU can bestow.   
During IU's spring 2021 commencement, McRobbie received Chancellor’s Medallions from IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend, and IU Southeast, making him the first individual to be honored by all five of the IU regional campuses with this special recognition.
