Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie recently presided over the rededication of Ernie Pyle Hall, the new home of the IU Admissions Welcome Center and the Walter Center for Career Achievement.
Ernie Pyle Hall was built in 1938 as the IU Bloomington Stores and Services Building. It was renamed in honor of IU alumnus and Pulitzer Prize-winning war correspondent Ernie Pyle in 1954. It was home to the Department of Journalism, the Indiana Daily Student and the Arbutus yearbook until The Media School was established in 2014.
With its new purpose, Ernie Pyle Hall could be one of the first and last places many students encounter on their academic journey at IU.

The building is centrally located and has a close proximity to the Indiana Memorial Union, which makes it an ideal location for new students and parents to begin getting to know IU.
"Today, Ernie Pyle Hall brings prospective students and their parents right into the heart of the bustling Bloomington campus as they visit the new IU Admissions Welcome Center," McRobbie said at the dedication ceremony.
As students studying in the College of Arts and Sciences prepare to achieve their professional goals, they may return to Ernie Pyle Hall to seek guidance at the Walter Center for Career Achievement.
"The Walter Center is … helping students in the College turn their talents into meaningful careers," McRobbie said. "Today, the IU community is proud to celebrate as these two centers, and the many thousands of students they will serve, 'breathe new purpose' into this iconic building."
