During his 14-year tenure as Indiana University president (2007-2021), Michael A. McRobbie oversaw major progress at the university across a wide range of key areas, including student success, research and scholarly excellence, community engagement, international education, health sciences training and research, and economic development for all of Indiana.

When he was inaugurated as IU president in 2007, Michael A. McRobbie observed that Indiana University had three essential missions: excellence in teaching, excellence in research, and—as a public university—engagement “in the life of the state.”
To carry out those roles, he outlined a set of key initiatives for improving the quality of scholarship at the university, expanding opportunities for all students, and enabling IU to take an active and entrepreneurial role in Indiana’s economic development.
