Vision & Initiatives

Inaugural initiatives

When he was inaugurated as Indiana University's 18th president in 2007, Michael A. McRobbie observed that IU has three essential missions: excellence in teaching, excellence in research, and—as a public university—engagement “in the life of the state.”

To carry out those roles, he outlined a set of key initiatives for improving the quality of scholarship at the university, expanding opportunities for all students, and enabling IU to take an active and entrepreneurial role in Indiana’s economic development.
