A thank-you message from President McRobbie to faculty and staff

Dear IU colleague,

As we come to the end of this unprecedented and extraordinary academic year at IU, I want to offer you my sincerest thanks and gratitude.

You persevered through this most challenging time with the courage, compassion, determination and spirit that continue to define our exceptional university community. And you demonstrated ― in countless inspiring and uplifting ways ― how a community can come closer together even when its members are physically distant.

In a matter of a few short weeks, you managed to transition teaching for our more than 100,000 students to all virtual classes and turn much of our world-class health sciences research toward the goal of eradicating and mitigating the threat of COVID-19. You helped keep essential operations running, increased extensively vital cleaning and sanitizing on all of our campuses, provided health guidance, delivered technical support, and constantly answered questions during a rapidly evolving and unpredictable situation.

You did all of this while stepping up in myriad ways to help our surrounding communities in their greatest hour of need.

We will almost certainly face more challenges and trials in the weeks ahead. But I am highly confident we will meet them with the same dedication, resolution, humanity and empathy that have carried us through this difficult semester. Our world-class teaching and research operations will soon get back to normal, and our campuses will once again be brimming with life and full of enthusiastic students from all over Indiana and the world.

With my deepest appreciation for all that you do for IU and in great anticipation of that time when we can be together again,

Michael A. McRobbie

President
