Prior to his presidency, Chancellor McRobbie began serving as the university's first vice president for information technology and chief information officer in 1997. In 2003, he was appointed to the additional position of vice president for research. Three years later, he was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs for IU's Bloomington campus.
