Announcing the New IU Grand Challenge Initiative
Announcing the New IU Grand Challenge Initiative
Fred H. Cate, vice president for research, welcomes those gathered for the IU Grand Challenge initiative announcement and introduces Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie.
IU President Michael A. McRobbie announces that IU will invest $55 million to help Indiana develop actionable solutions that prepare businesses, farmers, communities and individual Hoosiers for the effects of ongoing environmental change. The initiative -- Prepared for Environmental Change -- is the second project funded through IU's $300 million Grand Challenges Program, which launched in 2015.
IU Distinguished Professor of Biology Ellen Ketterson discusses how her team will address and combat environmental changes and threats. They will build Indiana-specific projections of environmental change that equip governments, businesses and community groups to respond with the right investments in agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and public health and safety.
Vice President for Research Fred H. Cate, IU Distinguished Professor of Biology Ellen Ketterson and IU President Michael A. McRobbie pose together following the announcement that Ketterson's team has been chosen as the second initiative of the $300 million Grand Challenges Program.
