Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie celebrated the outstanding contributions of IU’s most distinguished faculty at a dinner for the Alliance of Distinguished and Titled Professors.
At the celebration, McRobbie noted that the distinguished and titled professors are a central part of the university’s great history and its future, and he highlighted accomplishments of Alliance members of the last year.

Among this year’s Alliance achievements, David Allison, Provost Professor and the new dean of the IU School of Public Health in Bloomington—and a new member of the Alliance—was recently invited to join the prestigious Academy of Europe.
In addition, Bernice Pescosolido, Distinguished Professor of Sociology, was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Dennis Peters, the Herman T. Briscoe Professor of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Chemistry, was named a fellow of the American Chemical Society.
Craig Pikaard, the Carlos O. Miller Professor of Plant Growth and Development in the Department of Biology and the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, was elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
Rudy Professor of Chemistry Sara Skrabalak was awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship earlier this year.

On the same day as the Alliance celebration, the “Responding to the Addictions Crisis” initiative, led by Distinguished Professor and Dean of the IU School of Nursing, Robin Newhouse, was selected as the recipient of the third round of funding in IU’s Grand Challenges Research Program.
In fact, all three of the initiatives funded thus far under the Grand Challenges Program are led by members of the Alliance. Distinguished Professor Anantha Shekhar leads the Precision Health Initiative, and Distinguished Professor Ellen Ketterson, who spoke at the Alliance celebration, leads the Prepared for Environmental Change initiative.
