IU Bloomington Spring Commencement Dinner

McRobbie hosted a reception and dinner in Presidents Hall to honor IU Bloomington's spring commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients.
Jackson State University Interim President Roderick Paige, center, talks to guests at the reception. Paige, who was President George W. Bush's secretary of education from 2001 to 2005, was chosen as an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters recipient to be honored during the IU Bloomington undergraduate ceremony.
McKayla Bull, who majored in human development and family studies in the School of Public Health, was the IU Bloomington Class of 2017's student commencement speaker.
Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and CEO of New America, talks to a group of people that includes IU Vice President for IT and Chief Information Officer Brad Wheeler. Slaughter was the first woman to serve as director of policy planning for the U.S. Department of State, and she was the IU Bloomington undergraduate commencement speaker.
Pauline Yu, center, listens to College of Arts and Sciences Executive Dean Larry Singell during the reception. One of the foremost scholars in the field of Chinese and comparative literature, Yu delivered the graduate commencement ceremony earlier in the day.

Van Houweling was chosen as an honorary degree recipient to be honored during the IU Bloomington undergraduate commencement ceremony. He earned his Ph.D. in government from IU Bloomington in 1974 under the guidance of his advisor, the late Nobel laureate and IU Distinguished Professor Elinor Ostrom.
