The Rededication of Franklin Hall

Former broadcaster Ken Beckley and his wife, Audrey, both IU alumni, stand in the new television studio in Franklin Hall. The couple made a gift to The Media School to make the studio possible. The Ken and Audrey Beckley Studio serves as a facility for TV broadcast news classes and production workshops, as well as for IUSTV, the campus’s student-run television station, for student coverage of basketball and football half-time shows and for a variety of other activities.

The convocation was the culmination of the Media School’s move into the building, which reopened in August after a two-year, $21 million renovation. The Media School, formed within the College of Arts and Sciences in 2014, comprises journalism, telecommunications and film studies programs at IU.

Franklin Hall, built in 1907 to house the IU library and situated at the gateway to campus, has undergone $21 million in renovations. The heart of the building features a commons, open to skylights three stories up. A key feature of the common area is the interactive 24-foot-by-12-foot screen.
