Groundbreaking for the IU School of Dentistry's Expansion

IU President Michael A. McRobbie welcomes the audience to the IU School of Dentistry groundbreaking ceremony and talks about the history of the dental school. The groundbreaking is for a three-story, 45,000-square-foot, $21.6 million clinical building at the IU School of Dentistry. The school has been operating in facilities that were built in the 1930s, 1960s, and 1970s, and the new space will provide state-of-the-art clinics.

Josiah Smith, a student in the IU School of Dentistry, talks about how the expansion of the building will help students who are in training to become dentists or other types of dental professionals. Dental students provide treatment to more than 30,000 patients a year.

IU School of Dentistry Dean John N. Williams (left), Dr. James Fritts and IU President Michael A. McRobbie unveil the name of the clinical addition to the school. During the groundbreaking, President McRobbie announced that the clinical addition will be named the James J. Fritts, D.D.S. Clinical Care Center. Dr. James Fritts is a 1965 graduate of the dental school from Rochester, Indiana. Fritts and his family made a generous donation toward the new building.
