The Alliance of Distinguished and Titled Professors Dinner
The Alliance of Distinguished and Titled Professors Dinner
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie welcomes the audience to the Alliance of Distinguished and Titled Professors event before introducing the program. The Alliance of Distinguished and Titled Professors of Indiana University is an organization of active and emeritus IU faculty members holding distinguished rank, a titled professorship, or an endowed chair.
Howard J. Edenberg, Distinguished Professor and Chancellor’s Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Alliance co-chair, introduces the presenters for the evening. Victor H. Yngve Professor of Information Science Katy Börner was not present to talk about her research.
Class of 1968 Chancellor's Professor of Biology Roger P. Hangarter discusses his recent findings in plant research.
Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Cellular and Integrative Physiology Bruce A. Molitoris talks about his research involving glomerular filtration rates and nephron function, which is a clinical issue that results in unacceptably high patient mortality, development of chronic kidney disease, and accelerated progression to end-stage kidney disease.
Distinguished Professor of Violin Stanley Ritchie talks about his work. Ritchie is a pioneer in the early music field in the United States and was the first Indiana University Jacobs School of Music faculty member to receive a lifetime achievement award from Early Music America. He has directed and appeared as a soloist with many period instrument ensembles, including The Academy of Ancient Music, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, and the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra.
War Years Chancellor’s Professor Eliot R. Smith presents on his research about emotions in the IU Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Smith is interested in the role of emotions experienced with respect to one's collective self as a group member in prejudice and intergroup relations.
